A Message from our Bishop

As Bishop of Brentwood, I am delighted to recommend St John Payne School to all who visit this website. As with so many of our diocese’s institutions, the school represents a rich heritage of faith and learning handed down to us by real pioneers of the last century whose vision and belief live on today. As your bishop, I am constantly humbled by this inheritance which it is our privilege to hand on to each successive generation, in a spirit of discipleship and service.

My prayer is that each individual at St John Payne may achieve his/her full academic and human potential, while being grounded in a personal adventure of faith and discovery under the inspiring life and witness of their patron, St John Payne. This local saint shows us what is still possible in today’s world: a strong relationship with God, a love for learning, a conviction and thirst for the Truth, and a courage to stand up and be counted which will change us, our society, and the world for the better.

This legacy and this noble aim can only be realised if we continue to work together, as our faith reminds us, in a single-minded communion of hearts and minds. That is why I encourage you all, pupils, teachers, parents, governors, communities and friends, to be united in your teaching and learning, your believing and nourishing, and in all that you endeavour to achieve together.

May God bless St John Payne School, and inspire you all to flourish and grow for many years to come!

+ Alan Williams SM, Bishop of Brentwood
